The IndiaAI Mission: an MEITY initiative, launched by the Government of India in March 2024. Cabinet has approved over Rs.10,300 Crore for IndiaAI Mission which aims to build a comprehensive ecosystem that fosters AI innovation by democratizing computing access, enhancing data quality, developing indigenous AI capabilities, attracting top AI talent, enabling industry collaboration, providing startup risk capital, ensuring socially impactful AI projects, and promoting ethical AI. This mission drives responsible and inclusive growth of India's AI ecosystem through following seven pillars.
It is structured around seven key pillars to strengthen the country's AI ecosystem. Some of the major initiatives include:
IndiaAI Compute – Developing AI infrastructure to support research and development.
IndiaAI Datasets Platform – A centralized repository for AI datasets.
IndiaAI Application Development Initiatives – Focused on AI-driven solutions.
IndiaAI FutureSkills – Large-scale AI skill-building programs.
IndiaAI Innovation Center – A hub for AI research and development.
Safe & Trusted AI Projects – Includes initiatives like AI Bias Mitigation, Explainable AI, AI Ethical Certification, and Algorithm Auditing Tools.
Expression of Interest (EoI) Rounds – Calls for proposals to develop AI frameworks, watermarking tools, deepfake detection, and AI risk assessment models.
1. AIKosha
AIKosha is a platform that provides access curated datasets, advanced tools, and a collaborative space to turn AI ideas into impactful solutions. It is a hub
for AI resources: datasets, models, toolkits, use case library and
development environment to explore and share datasets, build
applications and leverage the community.
2. IndiaAI Compute Portal
IndiaAI Compute provides access to AI compute resources on the cloud by offering powerful GPUs at significantly lower costs, making compute available at affordable rates for Academia, Researchers, PhD Scholars, Students, Startups, MSMEs and Industry. According to Union electronics and IT minister
Ashwini Vaishnaw Startups, researchers, application developers and others can now access 14,000 GPUs (graphics processing units) on the IndiaAI Compute Portal, with 4,000 more in
3. IndiaAI FutureSkills
IndiaAI FutureSkills It aims to reduce barriers to entry into AI programs by
increasing AI courses at the undergraduate, master's, and Ph.D. levels.
Data and AI Labs will be established in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to
offer foundational courses. IndiaAI
is inviting nominations of B.Tech & M.Tech students for IndiaAI
fellowship. Further, IndiaAI is inviting Top 50 NIRF ranked research
institutes to share their approval to participate in IndiaAI Fellowship
for new PhD intakes researching in Artificial Intelligence.
4. IndiaAI Competency Framework
IndiaAI Competency Framework was launched for Public Sector Officials on March 6th, 2025, at the same official launch of the AIKosha & AI Compute Portal, enabling India's Research and Innovation Ecosystem. It is to equip public sector officials with skills related to AI competency mapping, and upskilling initiatives.
The Need for a Competency Framework India's public sector plays a critical role in leveraging AI to drive developmental and economic goals.
5. IndiaAI Data Labs
The IndiaAI Data lab is a dedicated space for students to learn foundational technical and career growth skills, build AI solutions, and get access to a simulated apprenticeship platform by Intel. It is equipped with infrastructure that is specifically designed to support AI skilling. By providing practical skills and hands-on experiences, the aim is to bridge the skills gap in the Indian workforce and drive innovation and growth in the AI industry.
Minister of state for electronics and IT Jitin Prasada in a written reply to Rajya Sabha said that besides proposals expected from states and UTs, IndiaAI in collaboration with NIELIT also plans to establish 27 data labs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across the country. The minister said that a model IndiaAI Data Lab in the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Delhi has already been set up, which acts as a reference point for the infrastructure to be set up in tier 2 and tier 3 cities as a part of the initiative.
6. IndiaAI Startups Global Acceleration Program
IndiaAi Startups Global Acceleration Program is an ambitious initiative designed to empower Indian AI startups with unparalleled global market access. In collaboration with Station F and HEC Paris, this 4-month immersive program aims to provide Indian AI startups with world-class mentorship, investor connections, and business expansion opportunities in the European market.
