DuraCloud for storage and preservation in Libraries

DuraCloud for storage and preservation in Libraries

DuraCloud is a hosted service from Duraspace that lets you control where and how your content is preserved in the cloud.
DuraCloud provides access to a wide range of cloud storage providers (Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Amazon Glacier, the San Diego Supercomputer Center cloud storage service, Rackspace Cloud Files, and coming soon, Chronopolis.) all through one, unified web-based interface.

Features:
  • DuraCloud keeps the copies of your content onto several different cloud storage providers (which are given above) and ensures that all copies are kept synchronized.
  • DuraCloud has integration with DSpace repository platform, Archive-It, and other systems for easy and straightforward content preservation.
  • DuraCloud software (open source) is run entirely in the cloud, so you do not have to worry about installing or maintaining any software locally.
  • DuraCloud provides academic and cultural heritage organizations, the benefit of content preservation without the need for specialized staff or skill.
  • It eliminates the risk of storing content with a single cloud provider  as your content kept stored onto several other cloud providers, so it becomes easy to move and copy files of any size or format.
  • It conducts regular content health checks for every content item stored in the cloud and thus ensures your content stored securely.
  •  DuraCloud allows streaming of video and audio through the cloud, no need of installing and maintaining streaming servers. The following picture depicts how it works.
